John 1.1 Word was God

And the Word was (a) God

Aid to Bible understanding page 1669:

"Actually, in the Greek text, the definite article ho, “the,” appears before the first “God,” but there is no article before the second."

Analysis

This Watchtower book makes the claim that when the word God in Greek is preceded by “the” (definite article) it refers to Jehovah, but when there is no definite article, it refers to “a god”

The following passages demonstrate how have they not applied this approach ANYWHERE other than John 1.1

They know Theon refers to Jehovah in most contexts, however they choose to not translate it correctly in John 1.1 to hide the claim that Jesus is God

They are inconsistent in order to obscure the truth of the Word of God

John 1.1

NWT – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.

KIT – ᾿Εν (In) ἀρχῇ (beginning) ἦν (was) ὁ (the) ,(Word) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) λόγος (Word) ἦν (was) πρὸς (toward) τὸν (the) ,(God) καὶ (and) θεὸς (god) ἦν (was) ὁ (the) λόγος. (Word.)

John 1.12

NWT - However, to all who did receive him, he gave authority to become God’s children, because they were exercising faith in his name.

KIT - ὅσοι (As many as) δὲ (but) ἔλαβον (took) ,(him) ἔδωκεν (he gave) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἐξουσίαν (authority) τέκνα (children) θεοῦ (of God) ,(to become) τοῖς (to the (ones) πιστεύουσιν (believing) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) ,(of him)

John 1.13

NWT – And they were born, not from blood or from a fleshly will or from man’s will, but from God.

KIT - οἳ (who) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (out of) αἱμάτων (bloods) οὐδὲ (nor) ἐκ (out of) θελήματος (will) σαρκὸς (of flesh) οὐδὲ (nor) ἐκ (out of) θελήματος (will) ἀνδρὸς (of male person) ἀλλ’ (but) ἐκ (out of) θεοῦ (God) ἐγεννήθησαν. (were generated.)

John 1.18

NWT - No man has seen God at any time; the only-begotten god who is at the Father’s side is the one who has explained Him.

KIT - θεὸν (God) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἑώρακεν (has seen) πώποτε· (at any time;) μονογενὴς (only-begotten) θεὸς (god) ὁ (the (one) ὢν (being) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόλπον (bosom) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (Father) ἐκεῖνος (that (one) ἐξηγήσατο. (explained.)

Analysis

The examples above show that the translators KNOW that THEON refers to God, whether or not it has the definite article

They are therefore dishonest in the book “Aid to Bible understanding” and in the actual translation of John 1.1
