Observing the Trinity in Scripture
Many Christians know that they believe in the Trinity, but don't know what that actually means.

If you intend to engage with people who claim to follow Scripture but deny the Trinity then you must understand exactly what you believe and why you believe it.

So what is the Trinity? Read the Nicene Creed to understand the words used to describe it by the Church in 385

Below are some passages that show the nuance of the claims of Almighty God throughout the old testament, and the claims of Jesus Christ, Son of the Father, God Almighty.

These verses are very difficult for someone who doesn't believe in the Trinity to recon with.

Keep in mind the Jesus knew the Hebrew scriptures very well, so these are not contradictions, they are claims.
We believe in One God-

Deuteronomy 32.39:
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. (KJV)

One God

John 1.1:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The Word is God, and is with God

One God who can take life and who can give life-

Deuteronomy 32.39:
“See now that I myself am he! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand. (NIV)

One God, who alone can give life

John 5.21:
For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (NIV)

The Father and Son can give life

Worship One God-

Exodus 20.3-4:
“You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them;" (NIV)

Worship the One God alone

Hebrews 1.6:
And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him. (NIV)

Glory of God-

Isaiah 42.8:
“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. (NIV)

God does not yield his glory to another

John 17.5:
And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. (NIV)
The Father glorifies the Son, and return to him the glory he had before he was incarnate

God is Lord of lords-

Deuteronomy 10.17:
For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. (NIV)

God is the Lord of Lords

Revelation 17.14:
They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.” (NIV)

The Lamb (Jesus) is Lord of lords

King/Lord of Glory-

Psalm 24.10:
Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty— he is the King of glory. (NIV)

The Lord Almighty is the King of Glory

1 Corinthians 2.8:
None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (NIV)

The Lord of Glory was crucified

God is above all-

Ephesians 4.6:
one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (NIV)

One God, above all

John 3.31:
The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. (NIV)

The one who testifies (Jesus) is above all

First and Last-

Isaiah 44.6:
“This is what the Lord says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.

One God, First and Last

Revelation 1.17-18:
“Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. (NIV)

Jesus (Living one made dead) is the First and the Last, and has power over death
